Traditions Make the Holidays Great

As Christmas time approaches, the attention has shifted from the sea to the snow. It’s the time of the year to celebrate whatever means the most to you and most importantly, doing so in your own way. I’d like to share one tradition in particular, The Lobstar. Screen shot 2012-12-11 at 3.24.35 PM

I believe in traditions. Not just just to check a box as part of some anual requirement, but to remind us that there are more important things in life than the everyday.  And when passed on from one generation to another, they continue to bring warmth and comfort while evolving in their own organic way. Discovering unique traditions is fun, but hearing how they came about and why they are most important to a particular person or family is even better. Here, the memory of a make-your-own ornament party transforms an out of the box illuminated clear star and a plastic novelty lobster into memories of Christmas past, pressent and future.

During this holiday season, if you find yourself scrambling to fulfill every holiday event in order to claim the season a success, ask yourself why you are doing the things you are. You may just smile when you remember why you started doing them in the first place and the first time you did ___. Reflection, is what traditions are all about and how they make the season so bright. Especially when the light comes from between the claws of a lobster.
